Athletic Trainer REF#:HS-R-8448-14-02-S Budget Title:Senior Patient Care Specialist Research Foundation Support Position Department:Orthopaedics RF Line#:R3155000 Grade:N.7 Campus:Stony Brook West Campus/HSC* Salary:Commensurate with experienceRequired Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program for Athletic Training. Successful completion of a one-year internship in Athletic Training. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Infection Control Training. New York State licensure and certification or eligibility as an Athletic Trainer. Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with billing practices. Knowledge of musculoskeletal research. Brief Description of Duties:The Athletic Trainer (ATC) supports patient care efforts in the outpatient offices for the Department of Orthopaedics. The practice has regular contact with patients from 10 years of age and older, with occasional contact with younger children. The selected candidate will: * Greets and obtains patient histories, populates electronic medical record, and acts as scribe as needed. * Performs physical examinations and evaluates injuries. * Performs wound care and suture removal. * Applies casts and splints. * Provides patient education, both in office and on the telephone when necessary. * Assists in charge capture, coding and medical documentation. * Works closely with resident physicians and physician extenders. * Participates in research meetings and quality improvement projects. * Participates in outreach opportunities at local colleges, high schools, athletic competitions etc. * Coordinates annual Sports Medicine Conference. Other Duties:As assigned Special Notes:This is a full time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.Travel to satellite offices will be required for this position. *This position is located at Tech Park, East Setauket, NY.
