Requisition ID 1546. The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for the safe, efficient and effective delivery of nursing care, utilizing the nursing process to provide direction and supervision for the Certified Nursing Assistants, Health Unit Coordinators and Licensed Practical Nurses. The RN provides nursing care as defined in department policies, procedures, schedules and standards of the profession and in accordance with the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act. The RN assesses the patient s condition including age related considerations and reports any significant changes to the physician. The RN performs direct care, including all cares from admission to discharge. Essential Job Functions Educates patients and families considering age specific needs. Administers medications and treatments properly and in a timely manner as documented on MAR. Assesses pain when indicated. Assesses the health status of the patient in order to develop an individualized care plan. Demonstrates knowledge of standards, policies and procedures, and integrates knowledge into delivery of care. Performs nursing procedures and treatments according to nursing division and unit specific standards. Performs direct patient care at a high professional level on a timely basis to meet the need of inpatients outpatients. Positively supports and contributes to departmental development as evidenced by participating in meetings and training. Prioritizes and organizes delivery of care in a consistent manner. Initiates interdisciplinary collaboration to promote optimal patient care and outcomes. Provides leadership for team and input into Departmental management. Utilizes critical thinking in implementing the coordination of medical and nursing interventions. Interventions demonstrate care planning that will promote good clinical outcomes. Knowledge Skills Abilities Clinical: Must have the knowledge of and ability to integrate clinical appropriateness and medical necessity related to ambulatory patient classifications. Adaptability: Must be able to adapt and respond to change and learn quickly. Flexibility: Displays a positive attitude and flexibility in changing situations. Interruptions: Must be able to adapt to frequent interruptions while concentrating on critical tasks. Customer Service: Demonstrates skills in courteous, compassionate and respectful treatment of internal and external customers. Computer skills: Requires basic skills in Internet and E mail at minimum. Must be able to learn and use Meditech software. Flexible Work Hours: Must have ability to work flexible hours days and may include on call hours or rotation to all shifts. Education: Associates Degree in Nursing Required Physical Demands: Medium Work. Must be able to provide direct patient care; and ability to lift push no more than 50 pounds at a time, with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Work Hours: This position will be scheduled to work 12 hour shifts and will rotate day night shifts including weekend and holiday rotations
