Job Summary Waste Management is looking for a passionate Usability Researcher responsible for inspiring and informing product design by gathering and studying information about user's behaviors, attitudes and emotions. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of user experience research to help us know more about our customers. The research insights you deliver will be used to design optimized user experiences on wm.com and informing key business decisions for our solutions as needed to satisfy business requirements while always putting the user at the center of all designs. The Usability Researcher will work on a dynamic team throughout all stages of the digital product cycle and will be engaged in the following roles: * Participate in product design by gathering and studying information about users' behaviors, attitudes and emotions. * Monitor aspects of the user experience and makes recommendations for solutions as needed to satisfy user/business requirements. * Ensure web properties comply with industry standards and best practices for usability design and HCI. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned and may vary by location. * Conducts usability evaluation and testing. * Analyzes data from multiple sources and synthesizes it in order to develop efficient user experiences. Develops competitive assessments. * Performs site heuristics reviews and work flows analysis. * Helps to define, request and incorporate relevant and recent UX research and data from customer feedback to ea sines inform design decisions. * Defines UX performance metrics (error rate, abandon rate, average number of clicks, perceived easines, etc) for every project to track its success. * As needed, designs user experience and interactions for wm.com, other WM web properties, email communications and internal applications. * As needed, creates wireframes, mockups and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction, design ideas, and UX deliverables. * Creates, maintains and shares project documentation and UX guidelines. * Provides support for large-scale design initiatives. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory duties. Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform this job. A. Education and Experience * Required: Bachelor's Degree in Interaction Design, Information Design, Interface design, Human-Computer Interaction or similar area of study. Minimum of three years of related experience. Four years of related experience may substitute for the Bachelor's degree. * Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Interaction Design, Information Design, Interface design, Human-Computer Interaction or similar area of study and three years of experience performing user experience design work. * A graduate degree in Interaction Design, Information Design, Interface design, Human-Computer Interaction or similar area of study may substitute for work experience B. Certificates, Licenses, Registration or Other Requirements Intermediate knowledge or skills in one or more of the following required: * Knowledge of requirements documentation, site maps, wireframes, prototypes, functional specifications and style standards. * Understanding of current web technologies and core web graphics formats. * Understanding of user-centered design principles. * Creative, conceptual and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work as a team player and interact with other technical teams. * Use research and analysis. * Usability audits and testing. * Interaction Design. * Information Architecture. * Visual design and branding. Knowledge, Skills or Abilities that Contribute to Success: * Various applications, databases, and technologies including, but not limited to: Axure (preferred), Visio, Amnigraffle, MS-Office, HTML, CSS, Adobe Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Flash * Mastery of web design principles, information design, typography, color, and layout for web sites, application and mobile devices * Project Management experience * Content management systems * Analytics including Omniture, Google and Clicktale * Search Engine Optimization and Marketing best practices * Presentation design Benefits At Waste Management, each eligible employee receives a competitive total compensation package including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Short Term Disability.
