Description Basic Function: This position is responsible for the physical, analytical and microbiological testing of Raw Materials, Bulk, Finished Product and purchased Product for conformance to Quality specifications. Use developed organoleptic, analytical methods and shade matching skills in evaluation of products and recommend corrective action for deviations or trends. Provide instrumental and wet chemistry and analysis support to all laboratory needs. Major Duties: 1. Organoleptic evaluation, shade matching, physical testing, chemical testing and microbiological testing of raw materials, bulk product, finished product and purchased products in accordance with department procedures and specifications. 2. Sample raw materials, bulk products and finished product in accordance to written specifications. 3. Use, care, calibration and trouble shooting of instruments and test equipment to include but not limited to Karl Fischer, pH meter, Densitometer, Viscometer, Autoclave, IR, LC, GC and AA. 4. Provide disposition direction based on test results and recommend corrective action, adjustments to improve batch compliance. 5. Investigate quality problems, and report and make recommendations and corrective actions concerning microbiological bulk and raw material issues. 6. Assist in training orientation of lower level and new technicians. 7. Verify documentation of test results, Product Process Standard (PPS) and drug orders in accordance to written specifications and procedures to ensure compliance to requirements. 8. Responsible for generating approval/reject tags and stickering bulk products and raw materials. 9. Responsible for entering final disposition on computer for raw materials, bulk and finished products. 10. Interface with other departments to coordinate the sampling, plating, testing and dispositioning of raw materials, bulks, finished product and purchased products. 11. Communicates with R&D; for dispositions on new batches, raw materials, standards and problems. 12. Properly prioritizes workload. 13. Act as a resource in developing and implementing QC systems and procedures. 14. Works independently with little supervision. 15. Follow good laboratory practices, safety, and housekeeping observing areas of non-compliance and initiating corrective action. 16. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Requirements 1. Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, comprehensive skills. 2. Excellent math skills. 3. Strong effective and expeditious laboratory technique. 4. High attention to detail and ability to identify corrective action. 5. Ability to act as liaison between site personnel and R&D.; 6. Work independently with minimum supervision. 7. Computer literate. 8. Aptitude for color and odor evaluation.
