Department:Operations Job Title:MICU Registered Nurse SALARY GRADE:771 FLSA STATUS:Exempt Effective Date:April 2012 General Summary: Functioning within the Registered Nurse scope of practice,MICU RNprovides general and Advanced Life Support (ALS) medical care, treatment and transport to patients in both emergent and non-emergent settings. Responds to calls in a timely manner as defined by our company, meeting and exceeding response times. Monitors communication equipment and maintains contact with Dispatch operations. Provides advanced life support and/or issues instructions to emergency personnel within the company systems according to standardized procedures. Functions in the field without direct supervision, utilizing assessment skills and standard medical guidelines when physician contact is not possible. During inter-facility and 911 transports, monitors patients while performing assessments and treatments. Primary Responsibilities and Duties: * Assesses patient needs, sets priorities of care under all conditions and in varied environments. * Evaluates the patient’s vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, respiratory and neurological status as condition warrants. * Plans and implements interventions based on knowledge of physical and behavioral sciences. * Provides on-line medical direction and supervision of pre-hospital emergency personnel. Orders only those medical procedures and drugs as authorized. * Serves as a liaison by maintaining effective lines of communication with base hospital personnel, Emergency Medical personnel, pre-hospital care providers and local receiving facilities. * Adheres to all communication policies an procedures relating to patient care, response times, schedule availability and vehicle operations. Understands and utilizes direct two-way voice communications, obtains pertinent assessment information, interprets the assessment information and directs initial and on-going field care interventions. Determines patient destination in accordance with company policies, procedures and protocols. * Adheres to all requirements for clinical documentation, ensures documentation of demographics information for billing and collection purposes. * Participates in required in-service and additional training as required by local and regional clinical services. * Completes daily comprehensive equipment check off reports and supplies. Reports all operational changes, problems and situations to the oncoming crew and leadership team. * Provides training for MICU staff and newly accredited paramedics by coordinating necessary clinical experience and evaluating performance. Requires Basic Life Support, (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) at time of hire. * Other Qualifications: Requires Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or TNATC, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRPP) or their equivalent within the initial probationary period. CEN, CRN, CFRN or CTRN certification required within the first year of employment. EMT-B or EMT-P is encouraged. Working Conditions: * Physical Demands: Performs lifting, carrying, loading and unloading of patients as necessary for transportation to a medical facility. * Work Environment: Emergency patient transport vehicle. * Equipment Used: Patient care equipment, transport equipment, two-way communication devices.
