Req ID 284421BR Industry Job Title Software Engineer Staff Job Code/Title E1074:Software Engineer Stf Job Description This position provides software engineering support to the Training System 21st Century (TS21) facility at JSC. Primary responsibility will be software development and maintenance of the real-time Extravehicular Activity/Airlock System (EVAS) in the TS21 facility. This position includes full software life-cycle support using engineering and computer programming skills primarily in C++. The applicant will be responsible for providing technical support in the analysis and resolution of software-related problems. The applicant will also be responsible for supporting critical software systems in the TS21 EVAS dynamics software. Applicant will work with the users to determine requirements, system limitations, impacts and flight-training readiness associated with the mathematics and physical science governing Spacesuits, Life Support, Airlock, and EVA systems. Applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong initiative, teamwork and problem-solving skills required. Occasional shift work and weekends will be expected. Basic Qualifications - Candidate must have strong experience supporting real-time simulation for the Extravehicular Activity/Airlock System (EVAS) software and must have an understanding of the mathematics and physical science governing Spacesuits, Life Support, Airlock, and EVA systems. - Candidate must have strong problem-solving experience using computer programming and experience in C++ software development that relates to the dynamics of the EVAS simulation. - Linux or UNIX skills are also required. - Must be able to perform simple and complex software builds and integrate software with other developers. - Must possess good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively and coordinate actions with both internal and external customers. - Candidates with in-depth Trick experience will have a significant advantage for the EVAS system. Desired skills - Prior experience with the Space Station Training Facility (SSTF) or Training System 21st Century (TS21) is a plus. - Candidate must have an understanding of the mathematics and physical science governing Spacesuits, Life Support, Airlock, and EVA systems. - Prior software development experience with the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) is a significant advantage. - Familiarity with the NASA JSC Trick simulation development tool.
