Req ID 284424BR Industry Job Title Software Engineer Staff Job Code/Title E1074:Software Engineer Stf Job Description This position provides software engineering support to the Training System 21st Century (TS21) facility at JSC. Primary responsibility will be software development and maintenance of the real-time Generic (Gen) and Remote Visiting Vehicle (VV) systems in the TS21 facility. This position includes full software life-cycle support using engineering and computer programming skills primarily in C++. The applicant will be responsible for providing technical support in the analysis and resolution of software-related problems. The applicant will also be responsible for supporting critical software systems in the TS21. Applicant will work with the users to determine requirements, system limitations, impacts and flight-training readiness associated with the mathematics and physical science governing spacecraft systems, dynamics, and integration. Applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong initiative, teamwork and problem-solving skills required. Occasional shift work and weekends will be expected. Basic Qualifications - Candidate must have strong experience supporting real-time simulation software for the Generic (Gen) Visiting Vehicle (VV) system and must have an understanding of the mathematics and physical science governing spacecraft systems and dynamics (orbital mechanics, aerodynamics, coordinate system transformation, etc.) and Guidance Navigation & Control (GNC) devices (i.e., star tracker, Inertial Measurement Unit, Rate Gyros, etc.). - Candidate must have a complete understanding of the Spacecraft vehicle models including Environment, Guidance, Navigation, & Control, High-Level Architecture (HLA), and especially Spacecraft model integration. - Candidate must also have strong experience supporting real-time simulation and integration of two (2) independent vehicle simulations in Remote locations such as the International Space Station (ISS) simulation at JSC in Houston, Texas and the H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV) Visiting Vehicle (VV) simulation at Tsukuba Space Center in Japan through a High-Level Architecture (HLA). - Candidate must be able to implement and generate Federation Object Models (FOM). - Candidate must have strong problem-solving experience using computer programming and experience in C++ software development. - Linux or UNIX skills are also required. - Must be able to perform simple and complex software builds and integrate software with other developers. - Must possess good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively and coordinate actions with both internal and external customers. - Candidates with in-depth Trick experience will have a significant advantage for the Gen VV and Remote VV integration. Desired skills - Prior experience with the Space Station Training Facility (SSTF) or Training System 21st Century (TS21) is a plus. - Experience with Agile software development methods, Free-Flyer, or Satellite Tool Kit is a plus. - Familiarity with the NASA JSC Trick simulation development tool and HLA is a plus.
