Daily Activities:
- Audit servers to verify they are up and running well.
- Backups - Checking backups to validate that they were successfully created as per process.
- SQL Server Error Log - Review the SQL Server error log for any errors or security issues (successful or failed logins) that are unexpected.
- SQL Server Agent Jobs - Review for failed SQL Server Agent Jobs.
- Storage - Validate you have enough storage on drives to support databases, backups, batch processes.
- Corrective Actions - Take corrective actions based on the issues and/or errors found.
- Monitor log file size on disk.
- Fixing deadlocks and blocking issues.
Weekly Checklist:
- Database Fragmentation - Review the fragmentation for databases and defragment manually (if needed).
- Security - Remove orphan logins and users as per security policy.
- Shrink databases - If databases or transaction logs are larger, than necessary shrink those files to free up disk space.
- Index reports to rebuild/reorganize large size indexes.
- Performance monitoring - Audit server CPU and memory status. Find slow performing queries and stored procedure and optimize those.
Monthly checklist:
- Windows, SQL Server or Application Updates - Check for service packs/patches that need to be installed on your SQL Server from either a hardware, OS, DBMS or application perspective.
- Providing database growth reports to Customer.
- Schema change reports.
Automate system:
- Setup data archive process.
- Setup alerts for specific error levels or error messages that impact your SQL Servers to be notified automatically.
- Database Backup and Restore Failure Notifications.
- Setup notification on Job success, failure or completion.
On Demand Activities:
- Setup, modification and monitoring of replication, mirroring and log shipping in production and other Environments.
- Installation, Configuration of SQL Server on Local System and Remote System.
- Creating linked server from SQL to SQL, SQL to Oracle and MySQL.
- Database migration and upgrade.
- Pre-production database refresh from production backups.
- SQL Deployment
- Convert production SQL clusters into UAT/development environments
- Document technical assets and processes for clients and KMicro.
SQL server versions experience required:
- MS SQL 2000 (Standard)
- MS SQL 2008 (Standard)
- MS SQL 2008 R2 (Standard)
- MS SQL 2012 (Standard and Enterprise edition)
- MS SQL 2014 (Standard and Enterprise edition)
- MS SQL 2016 (Standard and Enterprise edition)
- SQL Server 2017 (Standard and Enterprise edition)
