Manager/Director of Communications

The Manager/Director of Communications works to direct, coordinate and integrate the strategic communications, marketing, and public relations functions of the university into a cohesive effort that conveys a consistent message in support of the university's mission, strategic goals. and objectives. This involves creating content across all platforms, overseeing visual content creation and dissemination, assisting with increasing the overall visibility of AUK, including securing media placements, ensuring effective communications internally and externally, establishing the brand internally and externally, strengthening the university's social media presence, and managing event planning and implementation.

Reporting to the President, the Manager/Director of Communications manages a team and works with the academic and administrative leaders to develop an integrated organisation-wide communications plan with key messages for all stakeholders that align with the organization's strategies and goals to help build and maintain AUK’s mission and reputation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·        Increase visibility for the university by proactive media outreach and communication efforts; identify stories, establish and cultivate media relationships.

·        Develop and then execute an integrated communications plan that includes specific approaches to address needs in student recruiting, faculty and staff recruiting, publicising accomplishments, event and activity communications, research marketing, outreach, development, and external relations for senior leadership.

·        Manage public relations, media relations, issues and crisis communications, and provides issues/crisis counsel to senior leadership. Manage communications relationships with external agencies.

·        Help manage and craft compelling stories that communicate the far-reaching impact of the college and the essence of AUK to increase reputation and connection. Ensure all communications are aligned with University brand strategy and standards. 

·        Implement a Social Media plan for the university - oversee monthly social media team meetings and follow up with departments as needed to ensure social media planning, execution and compliance.

·        Support all publications as needed for content creation with a focus on individual profiles and feature stories.

·        Collaborate with Admissions and Registration Department to ensure consistent branding, uniform messaging, and prioritisation of marketing efforts related to prospective students.

·        Collaborate with the Office of Advancement on communications to their constituency.

·        Work to engage, cultivate and manage press and external relations to gain coverage of the college/department projects, programs, special events, and announcements.

·        Utilise metrics, analytics, research, and new technologies to better connect communications with our audiences.

·        Oversee the day-to-day operations of the communications, marketing, and program planning functions including budgeting and staff management.

·        Develop and implement internal communication programs to promote transparency and awareness within the campus community of important university initiatives and developments.

·        Serve on university committees as needed or required.
