Pre-Certification Specialist (Behavioral Health Services) Location: Putnam, CT Job Id: BHSPRECERT # of Openings: 1 Job Title: Pre-Certification Specialist Department: Behavioral Health Services Hours/Week: 24 Shift: 1st Posted: 2/25/14 JOB SUMMARY Under direction is responsible for the organization of a pre-certification program to assure an organized system of 100% pre-certification of Behavioral Health patients. Reviews registration information insuring accuracy and completeness of data. Answers pre-certification related questions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Verification of patient s insurance including eligibility, pre-certification requirements and all financial responsibility of the patient. * Pre-certification for all scheduled outpatients and urgent care appointments requiring pre-certification by contacting the appropriate insurance provider. Coordinates with front desk staff to assure appropriate pre-certification and verification of eligibility with payer. * Keeps abreast of changes in Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance provider changes regarding pre-certification procedures. Comprehensive understanding of third party payers, managed care contracts, and state and federal regulations. * Assists in gathering of information for appeals process. * Tracks, generates, and completes reports on pre-certification data for management of denials. * Receives and answers inquiries from patient s insurance companies and other appropriate parties. Provides assistance and education to outpatient providers and office staff. QUALIFICATIONS Education: * High school graduate or equivalent, business school or business college preferred. Experience: * One year in a hospital setting performing pre-certification functions preferred. * Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. * Knowledge of insurance providers preferred. * Registration experience preferred. * Behavioral Health experience a plus.
