Every other weekend, every other holiday Job Summary: Provides direct behavioral health patient care. Under the direction of the RN and/or the LCSW, the Mental Health Assistant provides support service to the professional staff on the Adolescent unit. This includes providing for the personal needs of the patient as well as therapuetic needs. The MHA will take into account the patients physical, emotional and spiritual well being when completing assignments. The MHA is responsible for communicating completed tasks to the team leader. The MHA exhibits initiative to: perform tasks independently, set priorities and arrange therapeutic time in relation to the urgency of the situation. The MHA demonstrates awareness of productivity/budgetary restriction by completing work tasks in the allotted time, using supplies cost effectively, and actively seeking additional work during slow periods. The MHA follows all established organization and department policies, procedures, objectives and quality assessment. Responsible for assisting in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the organization by adhering to all safety management policies and procedures which reflect the mission and philosophy of the Ascension Health System. Attends all mandatory in-service programs and maintains professional and education requirements. The MHA working in Adolescent Services must be at least 21 years of age to comply with Title IV-E guidelines for Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF). Qualifications Education Required: High School or equivalent Education Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a human services type of field (social work, Psychology, Education, Criminal Justice, etc) Licensure, Registration, Certification Required: None Experience Required: None Experience Preferred: One year Behavioral Health and/or Chemical Dependency experience One year experience working with adolescent patients Any associate working on the Adolescent unit must obtain the following certifications within 90 days of employment: 1.First Aid 2.Basic Life Support (CPR) 3.Non Violent Physical Crisis Intervention (CPI) Certification 4.Physical Re-Direction Competency Employment is contingent upon the following pre-employment checks: 1.National Criminal History fingerprint check 2.Sex and Violent Offender check 3.Department of Children Services (DCS) check 4.State and/or local law enforcement check 5.A Valid Driver¿s License with no major violation and have an acceptable driving record in order to maintain employment with St.Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital according to HR policy # 246v1 Requirements listed above must remain in good standing and will be checked in accordance with Title VI-E guidelines for Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF). Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required: Ability to perform and document vital signs (B/P, Respirations, Oximeter Reading, Pulse, Temperature and Pain level) including manual blood pressure. Ability to complete and demonstrate Mental Health Assistant skills competency check offs Demonstrates excellent oral communication skills to deal effectively with patient, families, physicians and co-workers including human relation skills utilizing a high degree of courtesy, care and tact Ability to confront and re-direct inappropriate behaviors displayed by the patient Ability to retrieve information from a computer Ability to operate a fax machine Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time Ability to learn the principles of growth and development over the life span of the patient Ability to assess patient data relative to age-specific needs and provide care as described in the departments policies and procedures.
