Title: Portfolio Manager Location: US-MN-Minneapolis Job Number: MIN04370 Cargill Dressings, Sauces & Oils (DS&O) refines vegetable and tropical oils and animal fat for a wide range of food and nonfood manufacturers. We also make shortenings, frying oils, mayonnaise, dressings, and sauces. The business operates seven oil refineries, five shortening and oil packaging plants, two dressings and sauce plants and a culinary sauce facility, within the United States. Customers include major food manufacturers and quick-service and casual-dining restaurant chains. Dressings Sauces & Oils is integrated with Cargill's soybean crushing activities, which provide a reliable source of crude soybean oil for further processing. Position Overview The Portfolio Manager role is accountable for managing the DS&O High Performance Innovation (HPI) and New Products, Services and Solutions (NPSS) project portfolios. This role works closely with the DS&O leadership and Portfolio Review Team (PRT) to ensure projects and overall portfolio are aligned with the business strategy and tracking to achieve innovation goals. The Portfolio Lead is responsible for ensuring the Innovation System process is integrated within the BU and effectively leveraged to deliver innovation growth and profit targets. This role is also responsible for tracking/reporting key business metrics related to innovation and NPSS. Principal Accountabilities: 35% Leads deployment of and drives governance against the Innovation Systems Process to ensure a highly robust innovation pipeline fully aligned with the business strategy with capability of meeting BU targets and objectives. Works closely with BU Innovation Champion on ideation to ensure a rich and steady stream of innovation projects in the queue. Fosters and provides training within DS&O on the Innovation System and associated processes. 25% Responsible for leading the PRT, and NPSS Steering team; and providing strong support for the Discovery Team including overall portfolio review/assessment, input on prioritization/capacity, resource deployment, portfolio gap/balance assessments and gap closing measures. Works with the Discovery team to ensure relevancy and scope of foundational research projects, business alignment, success criteria, progress vs. key milestones, and leverages a gated process to halt or graduate projects as appropriate. Also supports portfolio/project review of Oil Strategic Cluster (OSC) global projects sponsored by DS&O. 20% Maintains, tracks and reports key portfolio metrics and status vs. BU goals. Keeps leadership informed, providing quarterly updates at SLT. Raises awareness and drives appropriate actions at PRT, NPSS Steering and Discovery teams when Innovation portfolio is not meeting business expectations and goals. 20% Responsible for leading various process improvement initiatives within the BU and supporting at project level as assigned. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: * Bachelors’ Degree in a scientific discipline, food science, chemistry, food technology or related area of study * Minimum 5 years of professional experience in technical capacity in food industry or closely related field * Minimum 3 years project/portfolio management experience leveraging Stage Gate processes * Exceptional oral and written communication skills with ability to effectively influence and champion ideas * Highly proficient Microsoft Office skills including Excel and PowerPoint * Ability to travel 10% Preferred Qualifications: * Master’s Degree in food science, chemistry, food technology, business or closely related field * 7 years of professional experience in technical capacity * 5 years of professional experience in a food industry or closely related field * Professional project management training and certification * Strong business and commercial acumen with the ability to link strategy to action in order to achieve business results * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization * Demonstrated ability to be provide value through innovation * Demonstrated strategic thought leadership AND the ability to work through ambiguous front end exploration through detailed planning and execution * Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Cargill Leadership Model Job: Research and Development Cargill is an EEO/AA employer.
