Wyatt Detention Facility will be accepting applications on-site:Wyatt Training Center935 High StreetCentral Falls, RI 02863Apply in person on:February- 18th , 20th and 21st, 2014 from 9am to 4pmFebruary- 24th, 25th, 27th and 28th from 9am to 4pmWednesdays, February 19th and 26th from 11am to 7pmSaturday, February 22nd from 10am to 2pm.COMPLETED APPLICATIONS MUST BE RETURNED BY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH @ 4:00PMCadets who successfully complete the Training Academy will be eligible for full-time Correctional Officers positions at the Wyatt Detention Facility. Shift and days off will vary.During the eight-week Academy, you will be paid $10/hour for a forty hour workweek ($400/week). Upon successful completion of the Academy, the starting rate of pay for a Correctional Officer is $14.72/hour. You will receive additional pay for roll call and shift differential, if applicable.Correctional Officerand#39;s position includes, but is not limited to, the following conditions and expectations:WORK ENVIRONMENTThis position has primary direction and control of detainees placed in our facility.The Correctional Officer must possess a professional work ethic and work well under pressure in a security environmentPHYSICAL DEMANDSAbility to:React to physical confrontations and emergency situations quickly and effectivelyStand and sit for long periods of timeBend, reach, kneel and crouchClimb up and down stairs and ladders with speed and agilitySee clearly and recall visual detailsDrag up to 175 pounds for 60 yardsPerform multiple physical tasks simultaneouslyDrive vehicles including automobile and vanSpeak, read, and write in English clearlyHear and understand speech and radio transmissionsLift up to 50 poundsDESIRABLE BACKGROUNDWorking skill in:maintaining security, control, and custody of detainees;responding to emergency situations quickly, calmly, and decisively;observing situations and recalling facts;interacting with people of varied social, economic, and cultural backgrounds;communicating effectively, both orally and in writing;establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others;listening effectively;maintaining records and preparing reports;performing defensive tactics which require quick reflexes, agility, coordination, and strength;identifying normal and abnormal patterns in behavior;performing tasks requiring manual dexterity.* Successful candidates must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.* Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish desirable.
