Job Description Our Transportation Services group assists in all levels of federal, public, private and international organizations by offering planning, design, and construction services for transportation systems that reflect community needs. As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by - Superviseing smaller projects with up to 2 Inspectors assigned. - Developing the inspection plan, assigns work to inspectors, evaluates their work, and solves problems. - Performing complex and routine/standard inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used; and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions. - Using higher grade of equipment and performs complex calculations to perform inspection. - Reviewing drawings to prepare for the inspection. - Understanding the design of the construction that will be inspected. - Documenting the results of the inspection and communicates to the supervisor. - Conducting field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation as well as other contract administration documentation. - Inspecting work zones for proper traffic control setup, erosion control devices and maintenance thereof, utility coordination and right-of-way issue resolution. Minimum Qualifications - Associates degree in a Construction related field and minimum of 4 years progressive experience in the construction field demonstrating the ability to manage assignments independently, to instruct other inspectors, and to communicate effectively. OR a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum 8 years progressive experience in the construction field demonstrating the ability to manage assignments independently, to instruct other inspectors, and to communicate effectively - Certifications as required from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI(American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete - Must possess a valid driver s license - Work requires advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction - Knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry and trigonometry - Skill in the use of office equipment such as computers and calculators - Advanced ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, specifications, and provisions; review and prepare reports; communication skills and ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods - The position requires a minimum of 8 hours per day of walking, standing, lifting, and climbing outdoors in all types of climates - Must be able to lift 50 lbs Assignment Category Fulltime-Regular Amount of Travel Required 0% EEO Statement We attract the best people in the industry, supporting their efforts to learn and grow.
