Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of an RN, assists with patient care activities within the identified nursing care delivery model and performs administrative/clerical duties for a clinical unit. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1) Assists with patient activities of daily living and implementation of plan of care. 2) Assists in the mobilization, ambulation, and provides and/or arranges transport of patients. May also transport supplies, medications and/or specimens. 3) Assists with feeding/meals, application of compression devices/heat/ice, blood administration and cardiac monitoring using telemetry and 12 lead ECG as needed. Responsible for monitoring (non-invasive) patient elimination including bedpans, care of catheters, collection of specimens, bladder scans. 4) Assists with maintenance of supplies and cleaning of equipment. Maintains clean patient environment by keeping room clean and free of clutter, disposal of trash and responding to patient call lights. 5) Obtains and documents vital signs and applies/removes restraints under the direction of the licensed care provider. 6) Performs patient registration functions which include: ensuring all admitting information of patients is verified, assembling patient charts, tracking status and location of patients, and maintaining admission/transfer records as required. 7) Maintains accurate documentation in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. 8) Provides general office and clerical support specific to assigned clinical area which may include, but not limited to: phone reception, data entry, sorting, distributing, and filing correspondence. 9) Facilitates and assists with the discharge process of patients including completing all necessary paperwork. 10) Also assembles, maintains, and disassembles patient charts, preparing chart for transfer to HIS and Medical Records. 11) Performs data entry of bed assignments and ensures information is accurately entered in the bed tracking system, monitoring activity, and reporting problems to management in a timely manner. Qualifications BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School graduate or GED equivalent 2. Will have to maintain valid BLS certification. 3. Minimum of six (6) months work experience in a hospital, medical office, home health or long-term care setting OR current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing and completion of one (1) semester of clinicals. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in a patient care provider role is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Works in a team-based patient care delivery model comprised of RNs and Patient Care Technicians. - Requires critical thinking, organizational, problem solving, and verbal /written communication skills. - Basic math and computer skills a requirement. - Must be able to handle multiple tasks, be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate actions as needed Closing Statement As an equal opportunity employer, St.Vincent Health and all its ministries comply with all applicable employment laws and regulations.
