ABOUT THE ROLE
Ice Cream, with Beverages, is part of Unilever’s Refreshment category. The Ice Cream market worldwide is a €74.1bn business and Unilever is market leader globally. We have a strong portfolio of brands including Walls, Carte D’or, Magnum, Cornetto, Ben & Jerry’s, Fruttare and Max/Paddle Pop.
We have a position for a Consumer Technical Insight (CTI) Assistant in the Ice Cream Global CTI team, based at the Colworth Research & Development centre near Bedford, in the UK,. The role is to lead the CTI programme of work for Fruttare and our Kids Platform (Max and Paddle Pop brands) and support the CTI manager on Desserts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As the CTI lead on Fruttare and Max, responsibilities are to shape and implement a CTI programme of early stage or strategic sensory/consumer research, providing insights and clear guidance on how to optimise products and claims for success in the market
Responsibilities include:
• Work seamlessly with Consumer Market Insight (CMI) and regional CTI teams to design project-based research, specifically early stage testing of product and pack prototypes and the development of compelling claims, to influence key decisions during the course of a project.
• Selecting the best research plan and use of appropriate methods e.g. sensory analysis, qualitative or quantitative research
• Identify opportunities for superior products and claims for the relevant brand platform projects, based on analysis of consumer/market/product insights, and influence key stakeholders in project/brand teams to act on these insights.
• Lead strategic research to understand the key drivers of preference for different product segments/formats within the selected brand platforms.
• Act as advocate of the consumers on projects to translate consumer needs into technical targets for winning products, providing technical consumer and sensory inputs at all phases of the Innovation Funnel
• To actively partner with people from different functions (e.g. Marketing, R&D, CMI, Legal/Regulatory) to deliver clear and actionable project plans.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
• Graduate qualification in human sciences (e.g. Psychology, Sociology, Marketing), or food science with training in market research and sensory evaluation.
• Post Graduate qualification in marketing.
• Experience of working with Ice creams or desserts.
• Analytical thinking - identifying patterns across data sources
• Experience of working both agency and in industry (2 years minimum) exclusively with ice creams or desserts.
• Must have working knowledge of consumer, sensory and marketing evaluation techniques.
• High level of statistical skills, (including multivariate analysis e.g. Anova)
