Title: Associate Scientist I/II Location: Idaho-Idaho Falls The AREVA Reactors & Services Business Group: The Reactors and Services Business Group combines the nuclear reactor design and construction activities and the products and services activities necessary for the maintenance, operation, modernization, and improvement of power plants. Job Description: AREVA is seeking an Associate Scientist I/II for our Canberra location in Idaho Falls. The Associate Scientist position reports directly to the Americas Technical Services and Technical Support Manager within CANBERRA. The Associate Scientist, under supervision, will assist customers with technical support. Responsibilities and duties include: * Perform spectral analyses. * Perform various calculations. * Perform data collection. * Troubleshoot network and or database issues and/or other analyses required to support the customer base as directed by a senior scientist or the manager of technical support and services group. * Support the administration group with technical product related questions and data storage, calculation, query and spreadsheet improvements as necessary. All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position. * B.S. degree in physics, environmental science, nuclear engineeringor equivalent field, and/or a minimum of 3-5 years of equivalent technical training. * At least 2 years of experience in the field of radiation detection and measurements. * 2 years of experience performing work at a DOE facility. * Theoretical physics background. * Working knowledge of nuclear electronics, gamma spectroscopy, and neutron detection. * Strong PC skills -operating systems, networks and spreadsheets. * Programming knowledge with Visual Basic and C programming with base knowledge to expand in other SW programming languages. * Familiarity with commercial database packages, such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle. * Strong mathematics background. The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position. * Support gamma spectroscopy inquiries. * Support Statement of Work (SOW) generation and quoting for CONSULT requests. * Work with Senior Scientist and FAR group to expand knowledge of Genie 2K algorithms and core spectroscopy technologies. * Assist technical support personnel with measurements, data reduction and computer simulations. * Assist administration team with automating processes and programs. * Provide feedback and participate in product development working groups. TRAVEL Sporadic (10%) domestic travel.
