*Description/Job Summary* Manage and coordinate the safe, compliant operation of US Ecology’s operating facilities and manage compliance of closed facilities. Directly assess compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations at all sites through site visits, permit reviews, inspections, and audits. Duties and responsibilities include formulating efficient operational systems, development and oversight of environmental tracking systems, regulatory review and interpretations. Support Facility Environmental Managers and General Managers in the implementation of environmental programs. * ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* * Oversees and tracks operations, environmental compliance. * Provides implementation support of corporate safety initiatives. * Supports site staff during the development and submittal of permit modifications and new permit authorizations. * Provides technical review of agency submittals and environmental reports. * Ensures operations are conducted in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. * Oversees companywide waste inventory management system. * Serves as corporate liaison for facility request’s for compliance related modifications to AESOP. * Provides technical support for waste approvals. * Provide oversight of decentralized environmental compliance program. * Coordinates and leads internal compliance audits of waste management facilities. * Coordinates and leads external audits of vendor facilities. * Advises managers concerning environmental aspects of projects, tasks and operations. * Works with Environmental Compliance Managers in interpreting and answering regulatory questions under applicable state and federal laws. * Works with site environmental managers on the establishment and tracking of applicable environmental metrics. * Coordinate and participate in incident reviews as applicable. * Provide direct support to operating facilities through development of policies, procedures, manuals or other written materials. * Assists in environmental due diligence related to business acquisitions and business development initiatives. * Oversees environmental regulatory and safety compliance of closed facilities. * Other duties as assigned. * Performs other, related duties as assigned.* These are duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class of work. * HEALTH AND SAFETY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* While performing this job, the employee is responsible for monitoring and supporting efforts to facilitate continous adherence to the Company’s Health and Safety Program. Duties and responsibilities are detailed in the H&S Program Master DCocument and will be provided by the EH&S Director and/or the direct supervisor during new-hire orientation, training sessions or upon request. * ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE* Employee is required to report any concerns associated with environmental compliance to his/her supervisor. Employee is also required to complete training in hazardous waste management procedures, emergency response and other topics as outlined in the facilities training program and/or an individual training matrix. * JOB LEVELS* – One level. * SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA)* To perform the duties of this job, the employee must have extensive knowledge of complex regulations specific to the waste industry; must learn and understand organizations and subjects. Must be knowledgeable in current waste treatment, storage, and disposal operations. Essential competencies to perform this job include analytical, organizational and problem solving skills; must be detail oriented and possess technical aptitude. Ability to work under pressure, exercise independent judgment and select effective course of action while controlling resources and expenditures. * Education and/or Experience* A master''s degree and professional training in environmental science, engineering or related field plus 10 years of experience in the hazardous waste management industry or a combination of education, training and experience. Good knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Power point. * Certificate, Licenses, Registrations -* None required * Language Skills* Excellent verbal and oral communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and /or boards of directors. Ability to prepare press releases that are understandable to broad public audiences. * Mathematical Skills* Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. * Reasoning Ability* Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. The employee occasionally is required to walk and stand; other physical efforts include occasional lifting, bending, and stooping. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. * WORK ENVIRONMENT* Generally an office work environment. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions, when working at operational sites. Noise level is this environment may be loud.
