*Description/Job Summary* *Laboratory Technician* ** *SUMMARY*Performs laboratory tests in an analytical laboratory to determine chemical and physical characteristics of composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials. Performs fingerprint sampling and mercury analysis to assist in approval of and disposal of non-hazardous and hazardous wastes.*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*1.Fingerprint sampling and mercury analysis in compliance with site’s Health & Safety Program with much attention to the safety of self and others.2.Cleaning and calibration of basic laboratory equipment.3.Basic upkeep and cleaning of the laboratory and glassware.4.Sample tracking and disposal.5.Tests material to verify profile conformation.6.Records test results on standardized forms assuring proper QA/QC and standard operating procedures are adhered to.*Performs other, related duties as assigned.*1.Assist in the preparation of samples for analysis.2.Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas.3.Participate in site clean-up.4.Other assigned duties, not listed in the job description, will be within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class of work.To perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to know how to use basic laboratory equipment and instrumentation.*Supervisory Responsibilities: *This job has no supervisory responsibilities. *JOB LEVELS*· *Level I: Laboratory Technician I:*Entry level position, with minimum 6 months of experience. Performs a limited range of protocols and/or receives relatively close supervision. · *Level II Laboratory Technician II:*Top level position, with minimum 3 years of experience in an analytical laboratory. Handles a wide range of relatively complex protocols and operates a wide range of lab equipment with autonomy. *SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) *To perform the essential functions of the job, the employee must pay meticulous attention to detail when gathering and processing data and materials and to communicate effectively with others. · *Education and/or Experience*Associates degree in science from a two year college or technical school with related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. · *Certificates/Licenses/Registrations*None required. · *Language Skills*Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; interpret documents such as safety rules; ability to write routine reports and to effectively present information in one-on-one or small groups to supervisor or other employees of organization. · *Mathematical Skills*Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. · *Reasoning Ability*Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. *WORK ENVIRONMENT*While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, insects, moving mechanical and electrical devices.
