We have a vacancy for an experienced mechanical engineer who has established competence in power plant engineering design in the following areas:



  • Design of high energy piping systems and pressure parts including static, dynamic, creep and fatigue analysis.

  • Remant life analysis utilising clasical theory and Finite Element analysis of boiler and heat recovery steam generator presure parts and piping.

  • Condition assessment, failure investigation and problem solving.

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant design codes such as ASME BPV, BS EN12952, BS EN 13480 and BS EN 13445, and utilises appropriate software for stress.


Qualifications

Candidates should be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) and be able to demonstrate a level of competence in the above areas. The ability to undertake technically challenging work with a minimum of supervision, at a level consistent with experience, is an important requirement in this role, as is the ability to technically lead a multi-disciplined project team.


Candidates should ideally be (or working towards) IMechE Chartered Engineer status. The role will require a high degree of customer focus, a good level of competency with IT tools including MS Office and proprietary calculation software tools, good communication skills (written and spoken) and good team working skills.


The position requires visits to UK power station sites to meet customers, discuss projects, carry out plant assessments and develop improvement solutions therefore a valid UK driving licence is required. Travel to other Alstom UK business units will also be required, as will occasional overseas travel.
